BPF Year End Reflections

It is the holiday season and like many, the Baltimore Playwrights Festival has taken time during this holiday season to reflect on its accomplishments from 2023 and plans for the upcoming New Year.

Baltimore cultural institutions continued to recover from the pandemic and BPF was no exception.  We made some great strides this year.  During 2023 BPF:

  • Welcomed two new Board members;
  • Produced a lively and well-attended series of readings from the top 10 play submissions from Greater Baltimore playwrights;
  • Mounted an extremely successful production of the Baltimore premier play What Was Done at Spotlighters Theatre;
  • Performed well-received play excerpts from 8 local playwrights, produced by 4 directors and 9 actors, as part of the Baltimore Freefall event;
  • Raised record-setting funding from grants and donations, including a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC);
  • Collaborated with Spotlighter’s Theatre to present all our 2023 readings;
  • Successfully established an ongoing relationship with the Eubie Blake Cultural Center that will include rehearsal space and hosting pf the production of our full 2024 reading series.

Yes, we have been very busy and we will continue to be during 2024.  We will have exciting news to share with everyone in the coming months.

We at BPF hope everyone had a great set of holidays and that you have a happy, prosperous and safe 2024.
