BPF Season 35 Auditions

We’re holding general auditions for the Baltimore Playwrights Festival’s 2016 summer season at The Vagabond Players, on Wednesday, May 4, beginning at 7:00 pm. The festival format has changed–in addition to full productions, some theaters will produce book-in-hand staged productions.

Please memorize a two-minute monologue for your audition, and bring six copies of your resume and headshot if you have one. Auditioners will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis.

This is our 35th season – join us! The BPF nurtures the talents of Maryland and DC playwrights through public readings, discussions, critiques and workshopping of new plays.

BPF Season 34 Auditions

The BPF is holding auditions for the Strand theatre’s summer production of a one woman show – saving myself for steve Martin by ann Wixon in the latter part of July on Sunday 5/24 @ fells point corner theatre 251 s. Ann street 10am-12 noon. Needed one exceptional female actor 45-55. Will be asked to read from the script. Please bring resume and headshot. Rehearsals will start beginning of June. Fells Point Corner Theater FPCT announces auditions for BPF’s summer production “TYING THE KNOT” a wonderful comedy by James Beller!.

Tying the Knot was named a semifinalist in the O’Neill National Playwrights conference. James Beller’s play, Ethan Now, was awarded best drama in the Capital Fringe Festival.

Segments of the play to be presented the KENNEDY CENTER in DC.

Seeking a cast of 3 men and 3 women (one of the roles “Priest” could be male or female).

Synopsis:When Michael announces to his mother, Arlene, that he is getting married, it is the happiest day of her life. But when he tells her he’s marrying Pauline and not David, the boyfriend with whom he broke up three months earlier, Arlene is not merely shocked, she is outraged. Turning the stereotypical parental reaction on its head, Arlene uses every arrow in her quiver to try to prevent this “disaster” and make sure her son marries the right man and not the wrong woman!.

Performance Dates (6 performances) : Friday, Saturday and Sunday’s matinee- August 14th (8pm) , August 15th (8PM), August 16th (2PM), August 21st (8pm) , August 22nd (8PM), August 23rd (2PM),

Rehearsals start first weekend of June. Only 6 to 8 rehearsals scheduled in June’s weekends. From July 1st to July to , August 8th there will be about 3 to 4 rehearsals a week. Tech week is scheduled from Sunday August 9 th thru Thursday 13th. First read-through will be on Saturday June 6th or Sunday June 7th (TBD with CAST).

Audition Requirements: Auditions will consist of readings from the script. You can bring a max 2 minutes monologue, but is not mandatory. All selections will be available at the night of auditions and auditionees will have the opportunity to review before auditions begin. If you prefer we will be happy to send you the sides via e-mail!. All of the ages listed in the descriptions are “playing ages”. Please bring a list of all potential conflicts including travel, etc. No previous appointment necessary.

Character Descriptions:

MICHAEL Paulsen — 34, very successful lawyer, educated, confident, he comes from an “old money” family.

LANCE Kramer — 40, successful designer -architect: very elegant!. He is successful and about to be even more successful, cover of a very important magazine. LANCE still has a crush on Michael, still heartbroken. LANCE is confident but not when it comes to relationships, witty, a little arrogant, very precise and meticulous.

DAVID Scolfield– 27, actor: Ex Michael’s boyfriend. Artsy guy. He is good looking. He is very honest, more grounded than the other two characters. Not arrogant, not super educated, but very smart. Passionate about acting.

ARLENE Paulsen– 60, Michael’s mother. Very elegant, very Jewish mom, she tries to control Michael’s life.

PRIEST – any age, female (or male)

SERVER – young woman
