Final Month to Submit New Festival Plays

This is the final month to submit a play to the Baltimore Playwrights Festival. Scripts will be read by evaluators and many will receive public readings next fall and winter, then possibly be chosen by local theaters for 2018’s performances. There are cash and trophy awards for best plays and inclusion in the Kennedy Center’s annual Page to Stage Festival. Find details at https://www.baltplayfest.org/submit-a-play and join us!

In Memory of Ernest Sokal

Ernest Sokal, an enthusiastic promoter of Baltimore theater and new works in the Baltimore Playwrights Festival, recently passed away this week after a long and full life. Ernest was the husband of Beverly Sokal, who was part of the Fells Point Theater when it became one of the founding members of BPF. When Fells Point Corner Theatre later opened in 1987 with Beverly at its helm, a BPF production christened the theater. Beverly and Ernest’s contributions to BPF have been notable and we have made a charitable contribution in his memory. Anyone wishing to do the same should go to http://www.sollevinson.com/notice.php?lr=loc&id=28456.
