Letter from the Chair

Greetings!  I just wanted to share some updates with you on where things stand with the BPF now. We’re still working on updating our website and I want to personally thank you for your patience while we get some nagging issues resolved. Stay tuned for some wonderful upgrades – once we check the seat cushions and old purses for enough shekels to pay for the new and improved website. And we’re looking for a full-time webmaster to do updates both now and after the revamp is finished. We’re working on securing some grants to pay a stipend for this position. We’d love to have our supporters contribute whatever you can, and you’ll be rewarded with our heartfelt thanks and appreciation.

We have had incredible demand and have hit our limit of 50 plays submitted this season, so submissions are officially closed. Please follow this space for updates on this season’s selected readings and make sure to submit early next year. We look forward to reading your works! Every play accepted for submission will be evaluated and the feedback shared with the playwrights. And a lucky 10 or so will be selected for live readings next year. Happy Writing and our huge thanks for choosing to share your work with us.

Our reading season, where we shine a spotlight on some of our best submissions from the past year, is drawing to a close but we want to thank our friends at Arena Players, Vagabonds, and especially Spotlighters for hosting our readings. And to our wonderfully talented group of actors who donate their time to bringing the words of our brilliant playwrights to life.

We’d also like to welcome two new board members, Makeima Freeland and Larry Lambert to our Merry Band of Leaders, two terrific additions whose contributions will be most valued.

And lastly, we invite you to march with us in the 2023 Baltimore Pride Parade!  Email me at [email protected] for details soon, but we’re hoping for a BIG contingent of our playwrights, actors, theatre makers, and supporters to march shoulder to shoulder with us.

Remember – the play’s the thing!  And our mission is to provide our playwrights with honest feedback, with the hope of helping all of them to achieve their dreams and share their work with the theatre community. Happy Writing and Happy Reading!
