The 35th season of the Baltimore Playwrights Festival is almost here and the list of theaters on board is being finalized. Taking the wraps off brand new plays will be: Arena Players, Fells Point Corner Theatre, Liberty Showcase Theater, Rapid Lemon Productions, Spotlighters Theatre, Stillpointe Theatre Initiative, Strand Theater Company, Theatrical Mining Company, and Third Wall Productions Theatre. We’ve expanded and added book-in-hand productions to fully produced performances. Dates and plays are still being resolved so keep a close eye on this site and our Facebook page, plus sign up for emails to stay current. And we have a new Twitter account, @baltoplayfest!
Up first is a staged reading of The Room Where I Was Held by David Zax, co-produced by the Baltimore Playwrights Festival and Rapid Lemon Productions, June 11 and 24 at the University of Baltimore’s Wright Theater, 1420 N. Charles Street. Zax’s play about a journalist returning home after being abducted by the Taliban will be done book- in- hand. The playwright will utilize the rehearsals and the first performance to revise the script for the second showing. Both actors and audience are encouraged to explore this powerful play together.
